I used to be a pretty big fan of the Food Network.  But they tend to create new shows centered around the same core people, so it's become somewhat inbred and repetitive.  I used to really enjoy Diners, Drive-ins, and Dive with Guy Fieri (real name Ferry).  But as time goes by, he had become more annoying than entertaining.  He keeps complaining about getting splatters on his clothes or getting burns on his legs/feet.  What kind of idiot goes into a kitchen wearing short pants and flip-flops?!?  He's supposed to know what goes on in a kitchen!  His comments have really gotten old and repetitive.  And his hairdo, sunglasses, and jewelry don't impress me.I now only watch the Food Network once in a while.Thank you.  Rant over!   Emoticon 4951

Remember when they would cook on that channel? Everything is a big production, reality show! I liked Good Eats with Alton but I guess not enough explosions? Like when MTV played music.. 4951

I agree completely. That used to be just about the only channel we watched, but now I almost never watch it. First off, Paula Deen and Alton Brown were the best. Secondly, it seems now they have any random person doing a show. I hope their ratings have dropped because they've gone downhill. 4951

I got burned out on DD&D, because it seems like it is now on constantly.  I think they use it when there is nothing else to show.

I still enjoy Chopped and Iron Chef, as well as some of the other contests, except for pastry contests.  I have no interest in pastries.

I wish they would pick up some of the old cooking shows and replay them.  Shows like Justin Wilson, The Frugal Gourmet, The Galloping Gourmet, Two Fat Ladies, Julia Child, Graham Kerr, Carpino Pasquale, Wok with Yan, Paul Prudhomme, East Meets West, John Folse, etc.  Those shows are no longer in production and I'm sure they would be cheap to purchase and show.I used to love Alton Brown on Good Eats.  I hate his new cooking challenge show and most everything else he is on.@TXSunDvl:  Chopped and Iron Chef are about the only things I watch anymore.  I'm also burned out on DD&D.  So many of the "cooking competitions" are just plain stupid.  I like cooking shows that are entertaining as well as instructional.  4951

@Retired_EngineerCouldn't agree with you any more, my primate compadre...I miss the original, old school classics, like Grillen' and Chillen' with Bobby Flay, Yan Can Cook and Emeril Live........Even the original series with Rachael Ray and Giada De Laurentiis.......Seem like they got money and fame and sorta just became douchey, per say.....We used to really enjoy watching The Food Network - it was a "usual" channel in our home, and now we usually flip to The Food Channel..  Just doesn't seem as pretentious.... 4951

...Funny.....I looked over at my wife and asked if we were at a Flock of Seagulls show.

@Retired_Engineer: The Frugal Gourmet I liked, but one of them got it for child molestation or something like that, so they dropped it.Loved 2 fat ladies, wok with yang, east meets west and the first one we got with jamie oliver where was cooking in his flat.I liked Taste on FTV and Alton Brown (taste was sort of a Good Eats prequel). We used to watch the crap out of Emeril Live when he first came on, but they ran it into the ground.I still like DDD, but I usually watch it occasional.I do like Guy's new GGG.

Food network = food porn, lol. I'll watch cake competitions because I love the creativity that goes into them, but I never could get into shows that just cook & feature entrees. To each their own. 4951

Watch an old episode of Julia Child.  These Hollyweird wanna be peacocks can't hold a candle to a real cooking show host.  Julia didn't have a plastered on smile or out there attitude.  4951

After the Paula Deen incident many chefs and people involved left the company. They stood up for her,, not for what she said, but for the way the show just threw her off the show. 4951
