Actually, when my cat bit me, my physician immediately put me on Cipro because he was afraid of cat scratch disease or cellulitis! 4951

I worked with a guy years ago who was biten by his cat & ended up in the hospital for a week. His arm swelled to double the size. He was in bad shape. They let him out of the hospital because he was getting married & the couple couldn't afford to call off the wedding. 4951

One of my sisters in law was in the hospital for several days with cat scratch fever from trying to rescue a kitten. Nasty stuff! 4951

When I lived in Chicago, there was an animal shelter a block from my apartment.  After obtaining a dog there, I would visit to see the animals.  There was a mean cat there who loved to bite.  It would bite my hand, then dangle from my hand with its teeth sunk into me.After a few visits the cat stopped biting me.  It would come over to get some petting, 4951

My dd used to be a vet tech- so she had exposure to both dog and cat bites and scratches. She said that cats were more prone to biting and scratching. She has a few scars from cat bites and scars. She had to go on antibiotics a couple of times but no hospital. She never was bitten by a dog- she said dogs give signs their about to bite and she is a good reader of those signs. Cats not so much. She was raised around both and has both now. She has a cat that is part Siamese- it's cray cray!! 4951

I don't believe one in three people needs hospitalization either. But that's not to say cat bites can be nothing short of awful if it's bad enough.

I know of a lady who got bit and ended up in the hospital for three weeks. Her arm all the way up to her shoulder was infected severely from a bite on the hand, AND she wasn't responding to antibiotics, now that's a problem with cat bites. She ended up being ok but she was very ill from it. Cats mouths are chock full of nasty bacteria that can get into your body with puncture wounds. Not something to mess with. And a very good reason not to abuse antibiotics in your life. Lol.   Emoticon  4951
