My dh is wanting an X Box for his birthday.  I was wondering what people who owns one thinks of it.  He has the 360 and loves it, but he doesn't do a lot of the online play.  Do you have to have live?  What are the goods and the bad? 4951

Wife got me one for Christmas.  Im not a big gamer so my opinion may not count as much.Love the system.  Graphics are pretty good and the audio quality is better than I expected.  Definitely a good way to kill a lot of time.  I dont do online play simply because I would not have a life outside of it.  What I dont like...* the gold live subscription to access features like Skype, YouTube and the browser* in game purchases...but that is across the board with anything. 4951

I think Microsoft missed the mark with the Xbox one. It has some good qualities, but it can't overcome the shortfalls (at least at this point). Game developers have stated that they are not having an easy go at developing games for the console. They actually prefer the Nintendo Wii U and the PS4 in that regard. The graphics have proven to be subpar and will not be able to to keep up in a few years as technology advances. It is like they are already outdated. Kind of like buying an iPhone 3 or Samsung Galaxy 3 when newer improved versions already exist. I can't say that the PS4 is future proof, but at least it is not starting out behind the curve. I wouldn't mind having both consoles, but if I could only pick one right now it would be the PS4. I would wait until Microsoft comes out with an updated version of the Xbox one (because they will if they want to end up being competitive, which they aren't right now.) I will definitely be waiting for Microsoft to drop the price as well. They have once, but they will again. I could add more, but I am writing from my phone. Hope this helps some. 4951

I have an xbox 360 and a ps3 and I like playing the ps3 better. There are things about both I like and dislike. For online play I play the xbox because that is what my online friends have. But the same game on both system, I like the PS3 better.I like the xbox controller better however.I'm still out on what to upgrade to. Since you have to buy a subscription for either the PS4 or the Xbox one to play online that is not a real issue (other than Sony's is $10 a year cheaper). The Xbox sales have almost tanked after a decent start. It is hard to find places with PS4's in stock, in some cities, world wide.I'll wait until later when more games are out to see what happens.I know the graphics are better on the PS3 than the 360, and that is suppose to be the same for the PS4 vs. the xbox one. 4951

We've got both an Xbox One & a PS4 & absolutely love both for different reasons.

I say go for the Xbox One though @randisue. It's a totally advanced entertainment system, not just a console. It's voice activated & takes commands via voice & we love that. No other system does that. You can hook your dish/ cable up to it & sync it up with the voice commands as well. You can multitask, like play your game & watch tv or skype on the same screen at the same time. The graphics ARE good/ next gen quality, the sound is great, & some of the Xbox exclusive games like Titanfall & Halo just can't be beat. Xbox's exclusive games that playstation doesn't have are better games IMO. It's not perfect though. You do have to have a live gold subscription to watch netflix, play online, etc. Both DH & I do though so that's not an issue for us. It is a little more expensive than ps4 but it's worth the extra coin IMO.

PS4 is also great though. It's got some great exclusive games as well & the graphics ARE amazing, but I honestly don't see much difference between it & the one, & graphics matter a lot to me. It's got some great exclusive games as well & is a bit cheaper, but doesn't come with a camera (kinect) like the Xbox one & doesn't have as many capabilities.

I say go with the one. It's what we got first. He won't be disappointed. Emoticon 4951

I never thought "multi-tasking" would reach the point where one wants to game, skype, and watch TV all at the same time.   4951

Instead of multitasking as you put it, think of it as communication and more to the point, how we communicate.  Wether it be through online, in person, a note, text, video conference or call...almost all of the devices we have are designed to help us connect with each other.  The next gen consoles are just capitalizing on that.  Bundling everything into one simple package that hooks up to your tv is an efficient way of doing it.  The big change is how we interact with the tech.  Xbox One has the voice command control which is actually pretty good.  I walk upstairs and say "Xbox on"...my tv, surround sound and the xbox all come on.  Its actually pretty amazing to see how far things have come and even more so to think about the direction we are going.  How we communicate with each other and the tech that helps with that is mind boggling.   4951

@FoFa: I'm curious as to what shelves you're shopping @FoFa. I see both next gen consoles in stock, on store shelves at target, Walmart, & GameStop. Emoticon 4951

@Heathur: If that is true you need to buy the PS4s and sell them immediately for a profit. I have been around to most retailers in the area and they have not been stocked with PS4s, but rather empty console boxes and display cases. No actual console is in stock at that point. I did see 2 the other day at the mall, but they were gone by the time I left. Amazon (the biggest online retailer in existence) has been sold out of them since pre-launch. You can buy from other people that are selling them through amazon... at a much higher cost of course.

I've had both 360 & ps3, I still have the 360 and a Xbox one. Played the ps4, I still prefer xbox over ps. The xbox one is awesome. It's already had one update and a major os update is coming in early march.

Half the gamers on the net that have had the ps4 are switching to box one. Mainly because of online play. Play station has never been able to match the online community that is offered by Xbox live. In the past ps3 had one advantage over Xbox and that was blu ray. The xbox one has blu ray. Not to mention the xbox glass apps are pretty sweet.

If your looking for online play go xbox

As far as ps4 being sold out as soon as they hit the shelves, this is true but due to Sony' marketing not because it's a better console.

Both have exclusive games. God of war is the only reason I would buy another playstation.

Both systems are good so the decision should be on what he wants out of the console.

If he already has xbox live with the 360 it will carry over to the xbox one as well as gamer tag and friends list 4951

@Inked:

This is pretty spot on. It also carries over achievements. I would have been sooo bummed if I had to start all over again on achievements. Not that PSN doesn't, but it's always down! I agree wholeheartedly about Xbox having the better online community, & that's something that makes gaming that much more fun. 4951
