how often do you allow your kids to have a sugary breakfast? Like sugar filled cereals, donuts, pop tarts?Just curious. Because taylor is at such a picky stage. She normally gets yogurt, some type of fruit puree, and a neutragrain bar of some kind. I just feel like she's getting a lot of sugar first thing in the morning. She doesn't like eggs and doesn't care for cheese. What do your kids typically have for breakfast? 4951

Usually cereal, toast, or fruit. Sometimes pancakes if we're doing good on time 4951

When my son was in school and living at home I had a hard time getting him to eat cereal in the mornings. He liked to have a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash brown and biscuits. To this day he still eats like that in the morning. So as he grew older (out of elementary school) I had to make sure I taught him how to cook these items so he could do it himself when I had  to be to work so early. I think if you start off giving them healthy items they will continue this practice, but if you start off with the doughnuts and sugary foods this is what they will expect. 4951

@taramay it honestly depends on how much time we have. If she took forever to get up & get dressed like she did this morning, it's something like peanut butter toast or what she had this morning- skin milk, nutrigrain bar, & a cutie. When she wakes up on time & gets ready quickly, I'll make her eggs, a fresh shake, or oatmeal. She eats cereal too but I only let her get Cheerios or chex of some kind. They have chocolate Cheerios, fruity Cheerios, apple cinnamon Cheerios, etc. so she's fine with that. 4951

That does seem like a lot of sugar.  But I've been guilty of it as well! Emoticon

My kids went through the "I don't like egg" stage.  Now, they love them.  I make them scrambled eggs, but make sure I cook them soft (with heavy cream and cheese).  Sometimes I put ketchup on them because the girls love ketchup!

Another option is peanut butter or soy butter if she's allergic to nuts.

What about something like this you can make ahead of time and then reheat?

I think those fruit/veggie puree pouches are a healthy way to mix it up...Since she doesn't like eggs, maybe give her an avocado (with limited salt) for protein... my 3yo loves that.I typically make a boiled egg (she is going through a not-liking-scrambled phase)... with a piece of toast + fruit of some kind.  Other days it's yogurt w/ an english muffin... or oatmeal..... Weekends are usually pancakes, bacon & eggs for everyone... or biscuits & gravy.  Not healthy, but oh so good!I'm going to start making her a smoothie in the morning since she has started liking to drink mine Emoticon 4951

About once a week. She's 3, still sort if limited in what she will eat but she's pretty good on breakfast. The things I give that are sugary are donuts, pancakes with syrup, and cereal. The cereal is Honey Nut Cheerios though.
I just try to balance it all out throughout the day. Some meals are meh, some are great.
One thing I'm so glad my daughter eats is Greek yogurt. We get plain Oikos and stir in honey. 4951

I've started roasting veggies and suprisingly my kids eat them.  Not for breakfast of course.

I was shocked the other day when my 2 year old ate roasted broccoli! 4951

Emma goes through picky phases too. But she loves breakfast sausage, oatmeal with a little bit of maple syrup, Bruce's sweet potato pancakes and I add blueberries, and Natures Path organic Heritage Flakes. She likes scrambled eggs with cheese but not too often or she gets sick of it. 4951

Will Taylor eat fresh fruit? Emma loves blueberries, strawberries, bananas, kiwi and pears.

@N+T:

She'll eat any fruit if it's mushed up. But it's time for her to start feeding herself! She won't pick up anything that's wet. If I feed her pured food, we're done eating within 15 minutes. If we're doing solids, it takes all damn day. She only managed to eat about 1/2 of a chicken nugget for lunch because she'll store it in her cheek for so long. 4951

Try foods that aren't typically "breakfast" foods. We'd eat left overs from dinner a lot.
