Ours had to be in middle school, and whatever platform they wanted to join mom & dad were the first two people they had to 'friend', 'follow', or add.Same goes with cell phones.....no cell phones until middle school. We made this very clear well before any of them were close to middle school age, so there was no arguing or complaining. 4951
My DD2 was not really a computer person. She pretty much hated them (along with dolls, but that is another story I've told here before). She would freak out and throw a tantrum when the computer didn't behave as she would like (like that never happens). So her friends talked into doing a Mt Space (was that what it was called) page in Middle School or freshman high school, some where about there.Well she would post things every so often, but one day she found out her MySpace page was hacked, and they said some cruel things about her.She throws a fit, and I have to help her get rid of the site, which is impossible because she can't remember the email login she created on Yahoo just to create the MySpace site.We (well I) know it was her friends because she changed her password (from something I made her do) to our dogs name with a one next to it.Really hard to crack if you know her.......She never got on social media again until late last year when her college friends made get a facebook page. But her password is harder now adays. 4951
13 and very strict rules. Right now it's only Instagram and we follow her. We will have access to the account if we suspect anything we don't like. We try not to "embarrass her" by making comments on her pictures, which I am perfectly fine with. My account is private and some of her friends have tried to follow me, which I have refused. They probably don't know who I am and probably think I am just her friend for her list. Snapchat is not allowed under any circumstances. She is allowed to have Facebook and Twitter but has no interest in either of those. Apparently those are for old folk like me! The phone stays out of her room all night and in our room while doing her homework. Some of my nieces and nephews get accounts earlier. I do not accept them as friends on facebook or let them follow me on instagram. 4951
15 for Facebook type stuff. Computer is in the main area of the house. I know they have access to whatever on their phones, that's why no smartphone til they were 17. They were the only kids with a basic phone. I'm trying to make them appreciate things, and realize they'll be just fine without the newest and best or coolest stuff. They were sooo happy to finally get them 4951
All three of my daughters have first hand experience of the extreme embarrassment good ol' dad can inflict in their lives. I HIGHLY doubt we will ever have issues....lol. 4951
I only brought it up because a friend of mine's 9 year old requested to follow me on Instagram & it just took me back a bit knowing that there were kids as young as 9 on IG. Made me start thinking that surely she's not the only 9 year old & I started wondering what the average age was for social media because 9 just seemed sooo young. Her profile was private & mom assures me she monitors it closely, but i got curious as to what the average age was for other people's kiddo's these days. I declined of course because my IG is no place for a 9 year old, lol. Thanks y'all. 4951
Well hubby and I found out a few weeks ago my 12 soon to be 13 year old had a Facebook page that was not approved by hubby and I. So needless to say once we found out we sat down with him and talked to him. We told him no fb without us knowing the password and without us being your friends. I periodically post stuff on his fb especially when I get cool stuff from @queenb about civil air patrol. 4951
Most kids don't realize anything they post on the internet may come back to haunt them when they are older and applying for a job or even a college. 4951
I never let my first...her dad(My X) set her up a myspace and my sister set her up a facebook....she was around 15-16  Dawn wants a facebook to post all her art and stuff on but as those on my facebook know I got that covered...  I have been thinking about a blog site for her but ran by me.I would say 13 but being todays times I see many doing it a lot younger with supervision so Im just playing the wait and see game. Nothing now for sure and I will have all pass words till 18....HA! 4951
