No, not the drugs and alcohol kind. I know what you were thinking. But rather, the "I had a stroke and need help" rehab. My uncle had a stroke and is paralyzed on his entire right side and lost all but 2 words of speech. He is currently in a rehab facility off of 290 and West Rd but that is too far from family and am looking to move him into Kingwood. I was originally going to place him in my home but the nurses say that he needs constant blood monitoring as his possibility for a stroke is extremely high so another, closer facility is my option. Any advice/recommendations is/are appreciated.  4951

@Angie1002:  If rehab is being covered under insurance, ask them for the names of local facilities.  If it's not covered by insurance, ask his doctor for a recommendation of facilities in your area.  I don't know if they do stroke rehab, but Theraworks in the front of Kingwood is an excellent facility.  I went to them for lower back pain and my wife went there for rehab after having her right knee replaced.Theraworks605 Rockmead DriveSuite 200Kingwood281-348-9588 4951

@Retired_Engineer - Thank you. I was able to contact them and they led me in the right direction. They weren't what I was looking for but they did send me to one that I was in fact looking for.  4951

HealthSouth has a facility in Humble, next to the hospital.  The best place for him, however, would be TIRR in the med center. 4951

Apparently there is a new facility in Humble, as well.  I don't know anything about it however. http://www.khrehabnortheasthouston.com/ 4951

When I was deciding among three facilities, I went at mealtime. More patients were out of their rooms and I could see staff interacting. 4951

@TXSunDvl: Thank you. I contacted HealthSouth and they were exactly what I was looking for. I will also look into TIRR to see if they are better.

I was going to say HealthSouth.  My mil was supposed to go to HealthSouth that was what Methodist recommended.  My sil switched it to Emeritus but my husband thought HealthSouth had more rehab equipment.  I think for stroke patients HealthSouth is your best option. 4951

@Angie1002: TIRR is definitely better.  The question is if the distance is too far.  TIRR is one of the two top rehab facilities in the country.  That's where Gabby Giffords went to for rehab after she got shot in the head.http://tirr.memorialhermann.org/?gclid=CNWd-P7MzLwCFYRQ7Aod90AAwQ

@TXSunDvl:

That is what I have heard too. Distance is a factor and space can be limited.

I agree TIRR is the best but I know when you have family members who want to check on their relative everyday, it was too far!  4951
