The commercial doesn't bother me.
But there ARE issues. The US has always been a melting pot. It's a core part of who we are in this country. But we have a stand alone identity in the world community. We speak English as our national language. The immigrants of old had a goal to become Americans even tho they were Irish, German, Italians and many others. They learned how to become part of our reading, writing and functioning society. There's a difference between that and what we have now.
We dropped the ball on immigration and borders. So now we have a do over presenting itself. But there is no good reason, IMO, to have any other language or culture have equal status within our own country to the extent we don't demand everyone learn to read and write English.
Come one, come all, but be one of us. I think the sensitivity to all this has become a political football, and it shouldn't because common sense should be party blind. 4951
