I admit I am paranoid.  I do not open my door to anyone I don't know.  Anyone else do this? 4951

Guilty....but I do look out the glass window to see who it is! If I was uncomfortable and my gut instinct was warning me...nope not opening the door! 4951

Today I received an alert from a neighbor.  This is in Spring but can happen anywhere.  Be careful. About 8:00 am this morning, a young Hispanic male knocked on my door asking if he could mow my lawn and if I had cash to pay him. I told him my yard doesn't need mowing (yeah, it's kinda dead from winter) and I don't have cash. He walked away and got into a car parked right in front of my house (on Kettle Creek) that still had snow on it. Ten minutes later he is knocking on my door again wanting to come in and charge his phone because it's dead, he's cold and he can't get his car to start. I told him I don't have the same phone as him, lock my door, set my alarm and call the Sheriff. They show up and quickly arrest him. He had a gun and a knife on him and drugs in the vehicle that wasn't his. My neighbor comes out because his car was just broken into, and the burglar left his keys in the car. The keys went to the car parked in front of my house the guy was in. (Glad the guy was dumb enough to lose his keys in the car he broke into). He admitted to breaking in that car. My husbands work truck has been broken into twice and thousands of dollars in tools stolen. Hopefully now the burglaries will stop. And of coarse, be careful for who you open the door." 4951

Never. Our neighbors (that are not strangers) came by one evening unannounced, and they finally had to shout through the door "It's your neighbors" before we would get up and open the door. I'm paranoid and rightfully so, as people have been attacked in broad daylight just by opening their front door. 4951

@Queen_of_Spayeds: Your story freaked me out! I think it's crazy how we have to lock the door even when we are home, but unfortunately we do.

Very rarely. I will go to the door and look and talk through the door, because I don't want them to think no one is home and break in. Wish we had a speak easy door.
I hate the junk that they leave on the door. When I'm outside I will ask them not to leave their fliers etc. 99% of them are very nice and respectful. Last week I had a guy refuse to remove his advertisement off the door told me that he can do what ever he wants. He was a real gem. 4951

@thetarget9: Me too. I was told by an HPD officer to do this if I was going to open the door. Y'all try to call first. Emoticon

I seriously don't even open the door to people I know. My grandma came by to drop some books off yesterday but I didn't answer the door because I wasn't expecting her. I only answer the door if I'm expecting someone. I'm always carrying though. Room to room at home, at the store, when I was working, just driving DD to & from school. It's second nature at this point. I think more women should arm & educate themselves about self defense & firearm safety and operation. There's just too many weirdo's out there now days. 4951

I have French doors on the front of our house  & French storm doors in front of the those & both doors are locked at all times. I will look out the peep hole to see who it is , if I do not know them the doors stay shut & locked. I have 3 poodles that are my alarm system & ADT to back them up along with a 9MM hand gun that I'm not afraid to use. People that know us will call before they come over, they know our rules & know the rules apply to everyone. enough said. 4951
