"Don't ever step foot on my property again.. There is a price"My in laws woke up the other morning and found that taped to their front door. Apparently, my mother in law had gone across the street the day before and picked up a newspaper that had been on their neighbor's curb and threw it away. She said she did it because she didn't want it getting rained on and ran over and all gross. So I guess the neighbor watched her do that and didn't like it. My in laws called the sheriff and he said it wasn't a threat but told them if they didn't carry now, they should start...Also, they (in laws) found one whole egg in their yard too. Just an egg.. lolSo, would you consider that note at all threatening?? 4951

Nope, and tell your inlaws to stay off others property. Why these spam paper companies trash up the neighborhoods with said spam papers is beyond me. 4951

When I walk my dogs I always pick up the papers that end up in the street at the bottom of driveways and curbs and toss them back in the yards. I realize people don't want the papers but all they have to do is throw them away.    4951

Wow. That is disturbing. Idk what they should do. I wouldn't be able to rest til I talked to the neighbor, but that's just me. I would tell them I was sorry (and swallow my pride) and I just wanted to be helpful, and assure them it won't happen again. 4951

Yes, ....dangerous?...no, threatening yes. The folks you want to be concerned with wouldn't give someone a " warning". I would still be concerned , but it sounds like wannabes.

Tell MIL that she's trespassing. Sounds like we might be missing more info of past altercations? 4951

@mrsames77:  Since the neighbor didn't define the "price" as violence it's only an implied threat and the police can't take action.  They could talk to him but that's all.  As others state, tell your in-laws to give the place a wide berth. 4951

The neighbor obviously went on your in-laws property to tape the note.  So he wants his privacy but doesn't care about other's privacy?!? 4951

@mrsames77: It's somewhat disturbing.  I hope they don't ever expect ur in-laws to pick up their mail when they go on vacation.  Gonna be awkward seeing them passing them as they come and go too.

Yikes - and yikes to the advice from the police to "start carrying"!

On the newspaper topic... I don't understand the laziness of people, that they can't pick up a newspaper, until it's practically rancid fertilizer, and toss it in their garbage .
My neighbor recently warned me about the HOA and how their feelings about residents leaving their pails out front of their property. (Meanwhile, that's where ours were when we moved in and, as renters, we've never been told otherwise that it wasn't ok.) And yet the HOA ignores the newspaper issue. Talk about an eyesore! 4951

@mrsames77: what is disturbing in this is the sheriff giving advice to escalate the situation. get your inlaws to just stay away from the neighbor period. for all you know they could be meth freaks or just mental but if anyone has ever had to go thru all the crap associated with shooting someone, they know you only do it for selfpreservation cause the associated rigamorale will make you crazy. oh and if they decide to indict you, even if you get found not guilty, your lawyer is going to run you probably a hundred thousand for a bargain to mount a defense.

The note is strange indeed.  I'd be tempted to offer a witty retort with a Bob Barker reference. The egg is easy to 'splain.  I imagine someone was walking their chicken.  I've seen it hundreds of times... 4951

When my neighbors throw away a paper, or bring my trash can to the garage door, I thank them.  I do the same for them. The note is a threat to stop throwing away the neighbor's paper. 4951
