We are moving the Houston area in the summer.  My husband will be working off 8 and 225.  We are considering the Clear Lakes area or maybe the Kingwood area.  We'll have two kids in high school.  Can anyone give me information about the area, pros and cons.We are planning to visit areas in March. 4951

What's the most important factor for you in choosing a home? How much land you have? Quality of academics /sports in school? Easy commute? Home prices vary in these areas as well. Go to Har.com and there you will find home listing for area you are thinking about. It's slow on here today and prob will be tomorrow as well cause of Superbowl. Check back with us with info about exactly what you are looking for and we will help you. Definitely start with Har.com . 4951

There is a message board on har.com with hundreds of people asking the same questions about kingwood and other areas. Definitely a good resource for you. Your doing the right thing now by researching! We who live in kingwood love it! 4951

Not all who live in kingwood love it. That's why they move from there as I did.

It's a nice development but there are other nice ones as well. Be specific in your research and make a decision based on your family's needs.

Good luck and God bless.

If you are looking for a place that you can commute to Houston, has excellent schools, plenty of amenities like walking/biking trails, swimming pools, and sports fields, then Kingwood would be worth a look.  The prices for houses are reasonable too.  I still can't believe how little we paid for our house here.  Count us as a family that feels like they made the best decision possible. 4951

Thanks,We currently live in Andover, a small town of about 10K, on the outskirts of Wichita, Kansas but within 15 to 20 minutes anything we need is within reach.  I'd like to have that! Our home is 5 beds 3 bath and we'd like something similar but with a pool, or at least a community pool.  We'd like to have things for our kids to do as they are teens.  We are big in hunting, fishing and like the outdoors. My husband would like to keep his commute around 45 minutes or less. We've been told that in the clear lakes/league city area the taxes and insurance can be as much as the mortgage payment.  That is kind of scary if true.We have looked on har.com and found lots of homes that would fit our needs, it's just hard to get an idea about the area from the internet.  My husband is going back to the ara for work in mid February and he wants to me tell him an area to stay in so he can check it out.  4951

@lahenneke:  If your husband is going to be working off of Beltway 8 and 225, Kingwood will be a REALLY LONG commute and not a fun one for him.  Although, Kingwood is a nice area...Clear Lake is a very nice area as well and closer to your husband's job.  Emoticon 4951

Mont Belvieu might be a place worth looking into.

Kingwood to the Beltway 8 / 225 area is not a fun commute. Did it for 4 years. You can count on 45 minutes to an hour depending on the time of day etc. Deer Park / LaPorte area is close and has some beautiful new subdivisions. Deer Park is supposed to have a great school district. 4951

Deer Park also seems to have a lot of community activities. 4951

My neighbor works in that area and he doesn't mind the commute especially with the toll road now open.   Clear Lake is nice.  The Deer Park area is very industrial.   Clear Lake is a master plan community like Kingwood so there will be community pools in both areas.   Both areas would be close to fishing and boating. I don't think Clear Lake would have the jogging trails/green belts that Kingwood has.   With the Clear Lake area, you would probably have to evacuate for a large hurricane.  We stayed here in our house for the last hurricane Ike (I think it was a category 4) and  had to deal without power for 2 weeks.  Some people in Kingwood complain that there are not enough activities for teens here.  4951

I used to work in Deer Park and I would NOT live there.  There's nothing wrong with the town, but if you live that close to refining and chemical plants, you are going to get bad smells and incidents (gas releases, smoke from fires, noise, etc).I worked there for about 10 years.  The commute is not TOO bad from Kingwood.  About 45 minutes in the morning, but an hour+ in the afternoon.  It's certainly better now than when I drove it. 4951
