the wee one has figured out how to close doors. It wasn't a problem before because i would always hear the door close. But this morning i was doing dishes and she closed her bedroom door, trapping herself in the room. I didn't hear it, or her, over the noise i was making. Several minutes went by before i went to check on her. By then she was flipping out. Poor kid! I like for her to be able to go into her bedroom and play alone. I think it's good for her, and me. But...how do i rig the door so she can't close it? Can't take it down because it gets closed when she's asleep.  4951

A pencil or something in the hinged side up high where she cant reach it and you can easily take it out at night. 4951

Duct tape across the latch. If that won't work drape a hand towel over the top of the door. it will prevent closing.  4951

I like the towel over the door idea best except I'd probably keep forgetting each time. Duct tape over the little doohickey that fits into the striker plate on the door jamb. Sorry I'm not explaining it well. :-/ 4951

I was going to say to use one of those sticky hooks on the wall and use a hair band to hook the door handle to the wall, but the hand towel over the top of the door is a brilliant idea! 4951

@Love2Run: That was my thought...but she would still be stuck as she can't open the door. She sits there and swings it closed. I'll try the towel idea!

I saw on Pinterest that you can cut off a piece of a pool noodle and slip it on the top of the door. Cheap and sounds effective! 4951

@taramayOh! I just saw this hint somewhere a day or two ago, and I wondered why anyone would ever want to keep their door from closing!  Now I know!Anyway, you take a rubber band and loop it around one door knob.  Then twist it so it criss-crosses across the door thingy, holding it in, and then loop the other side around the other door knob.

@SandyKnee: brilliant!

They also sell palstic things that fit over the door knob that just spin around for the inexperienced. Adults know how to open them. 4951
