My 12 year old cat is snoring, wheezing, swallowing a lot whether sleeping or lounging. For convenience, I went to NorthPark vet. I was told they were going to take an ex ray one, not three. My bill was 360.00

I'm floored, I paid for a consultation fee of 63.75
Exam 50.00
Rabies hot. 26.00
Digital ex ray 110.00
2 additional ex ray 102.00
3.85 for antihistamine 7 day dosage

I will never ever ever go back here. I'm sure I will receive a bill for the radiologist report. This is more than a human would pay waking in an er center without insurance. I called them back, and I said they should inform people of exorbitant charges and get consent. One ex ray would have been sufficient, I'm livid. It's principle. Or maybe telling me to try the antihistamine first to see if that helps the issue. 4951

Sorry cgm. Ah....I know your pain. That's why I quit the KW vets and went to Dr. H. in Huffman. BTW - she's an avid cat person herself. If you still don't feel comfortable with their advice, you might want to give her a try. It's a bit of a drive but you'll get great veterinary care without the exorbitant prices. 4951

When we first moved here, I needed heartguard for my dog, they would not give me any without me making a apt with tests (even tho I had my current vets history with me) . cost $150.00I said no thanks..would never go back there again after my initial impression that they care more about the money and not your pet. 4951

We use the same Vet in Huffman as @Love2RunWay cheaper and great service. She did a surgical resection of our doxie's herniated large intestine for about 600. The emergency vet by the mall quoted us 2500 min to 3500.   4951

@yvonnep: I've had the same experience trying to buy heart-worm meds and it really ticked me off then too. I've since learned that it's dangerous to give the med to a heart-worm positive dog, so they're just practicing safe medicine. They should TELL us that though!!!

What is the vet in porter that people like. I'm seriously going to speak my mind when the vet calls me with results. That as a new customer the office manager should or some one should go over possible charges for services. They should have told me walking in the door cost me 113.00 I'd have walked out,

Wait - a consultation fee AND an exam fee? I'm sorry, but that's highway robbery. And I agree that they should have told you that they were taking 3 xrays.

I would see what you could do about fighting that. I would also go on and say that you will post negative reviews about their communication skills and services on local sites in order to warn others. It may work, who knows?

Good luck. 4951

I'm surprised. I take my dogs to 494 and have always been happy with their prices. I would be **** if they did more than I authorized, then charged me for it.  4951

I had my current vets info with all of his info updated, I had misplaced the heartguard in the move and he wasn't ready for his annual shots & exam. It was strictly a money thing with them.I used the Vanguard group now when they do their mobile set ups and have had great service at affordbale pricing. 4951

@topcat: I would use 494, but I went there for years until something happened & my baby didn't get the care it needed because it was too inconvenient for the vet on duty.I now use the vet in Huffman, especially for my cats. She's really good & you can't beat her fees, waaaayyyyy lower than 494 and you can't get better care. After I went to 494 I tried using Glade Valley,  and I'll just leave it at that!

@topcat it was a matter of convenience today. Eartha got her rabies shot, which I am not an advocate of for an indoor cat. I will go to 494 next time. Or Huffman....that's a long way though. I'm freaking so annoyed.  I want a fn smoke....this shall pass. Grrrerrrr 4951

We've been happy with 494 for the last 5 years. There pricing seems fair and we like the care that our dog recieves and the communication from the vets. 4951

I would have asked right at the counter when you checked out... I would have asked WHY three X Rays ??  Many times they will cut you a break...   I feel your pain, trust me !!!  The vet at Kings Crossing gave me a few breaks with Mufassa, but I was still down about 3k when all was said and done......    Kind of like when you check out at Kroger and the checker hands you the receipt and says "You Saved 12.74"    REALLY?????  I can't tell !!!! 4951
