So today I solved my problem with my cat climbing up the walls. Unfortunately the worst was the solution. Stewie, my other cat was chasing Nala around causing her to climb the walls. She was taking straws out of my glasses and knocking drinks over because he was hogging all the toys so a straw was the next best toy for her. Wev had him in our garage (it is heated and cooled) the past few days and all the problems stopped. Unfortunately we are now looking for him a new home in the classifieds if anyone is interested. I hate to see him go but it is for mine and my husbands sanity along with my dog and cats sanity. I just thought all the people that helped me would like to know the answer. 4951

we have cats that don't get along but we didn't solve the problem by giving one away.  We play with our animals until they are too tired to fight.  Maybe he feels neglected and left out and needs more attention. 4951

I've got to agree with Okiedokie, giving up on your pet and discarding him isn't the answer. You made a commitment to the little guy. Honor it. 4951

When I was growing up, cats were a dime a dozen.  Maybe he could survive outside.  I think that is how cats did it in the old days. 4951

Well after over $15000 in damage, hes gone and my husband is the one that decided that. I was ok with him having his own room and staying there and playing with him in there. So far Iv been through 2 living room sets, new carpet for the whole house, all new bedroom furniture, new sheet rock on 2 walls, all new window  blinds and 2 new ceiling fans, yes ceiling fans. I got to the point of playing with them for hours a day after watching my cat from hell and hoping that would help. He would literally chase my other cat to no end. If hes laying in my lap being petted and sees another animal hes gone to chase them hissing and meowing. All day and all night. Nala is a special character too but she was fine before he came along over a year ago. He scratched my dogs eye, nose and will bite and cling to her tail, a 65 pound dog. When all she was doing was napping at my feet. Trust me, if I could keep him I would. After trying to work things out for more then a year, my husband is done with it. 4951

Have you tried keeping his claws trimmed? Its very easy to do... I do it to both of my kitties. No declawing, that's inhumane. They also make vinyl nail covers that glue on like acrylics, you can even get them with crysal gel, only fhive dollar moah. 4951

@Nicole4647: $15k in damages! Wow...I completely agree with your decision (I and/or my dh would have made it MUCH earlier, but that's just us). No way would I put up with anyone or anything destroying my house...no one would ever be able to justify that to me. EmoticonSorry you had to make that decision, but it's your decision and not anyone else's who isn't standing in your shoes. Maybe you can find some peace now. Emoticon

That total didnt even include the 2 new TVs. One when he was chasing Nala and the big screen in the living room got knocked over and the bedroom TV he chased her into that she scratched. We also need a new computer desk and game room TV for the same reason. During 1 of their spats they tripped my husband causing him to put a hole in the door. I blamed it on him but...Once a week i do trim their claws and re do their nail caps (they usually have most of them off in a few days). Hes really not the destructive 1, he chases Nala making her destructive, we originally blamed her. I also still need to replace the bedroom curtains and blinds. These arnt the cheap blinds either, they are the 2 inch wood blinds they broke. Im afraid the window might be broken too. Iv never quite seen anything like it. Im usually very good with pets and solving problems but this is beyond me. 4951

Personally, I don't think you need to defend yourself. You gave the animal a chance, but the animal was not a good fit for your household. Your other animals were there first.

If anything, I think it would have been better to do a trial run, or find out of the cat got along with others before adopting, but I don't know what the situation of the adoption was. So I won't comment on that either.

I think a year is a long enough time to give an animal a chance to fit into your household. It just wasn't a right fit. 4951

I had to give one of my cats up recently.  She was scratching my 1 year old in the face.  DH took her to Crosby veterinary clinic to have her put down but when he got there the vet called around to some  people with farms and others who had recently lost a pet and were looking for another.  They found her a new home, as an indoor cat with no kids.  They didnt charge my DH anything for that either. 4951
