Are there any book stores in or around the Kingwood area, besides Barns and Noble and Half Price? 4951

That's what I was afraid of. It's so hard to find a good book store nowadays. Thanks though! 4951

@bp2018: My parents used to own and run a used bookstore...the business model no longer exists, and unfortunately it's not coming back any time soon, with the growth and ease-of-use of things like the iPad and Kindle and eBooks...

What happened to your parent's store, if you don't mind me asking? I heard it is getting harder for even the major book retailers, such as Barns and Noble, to stay open, since the demand for hard copy books is going down. Personally, I think e-readers are nice, but nothing beats the anticipation of waiting for the release of your favorite book and waiting in lines to get the first edition of it when it comes out. Or the satisfaction of holding your newest possession in your hand and smelling that new book scent. Yes, it does exist for other things than cars =P Forgive my ranting. I realize I am a dying breed. 4951

@bp2018:  what specifically are you looking for?  there is a huge selection of books available at family Time and at Abby. both are thrift shops that benefit charity. abby spends its income on dog rescue and family time runs a shelter for battered women. if you want specific books rather than just browsing the shelves, the library can be your best friend plus they get all the new books. you might have to wait till it is your turn since some new ones end up on a que for readers if they are very popular. and the kingwood libarary also has a friends of the kingwood library shop in the vestibule of the library that sells donated books and other material. some of the books are brand new or read just once...3 bucks...how can you go wrong? the tullis library has the same and so, too, the octavia fields library down in humble

@Okiedokie: Finally someone who gets it! =) I have a room full of books that I collected over the years and refuse to give up. I reread a lot of my books, and figured I'll always have something if a friend needs new literature.

Kingwood library has a good sized used book store also if your just looking to browse. I have gotten some killer books there for less than a buck. Obviously its not gonna hold a bunch or new releases but Im amazed at some of the nice books I have gotten there and the money they make helps pays for all the activities they offer the community, especially the kids. 4951

@bp2018: I have told my DH that books are off limits when it comes to downsizing.  Amazingly enough, I have gotten a ton of books from Goodwill.

@ProblemAgain: Just new reading material, nothing in particular. I always try to support the smaller businesses before I go to the big corporate owned ones. I will definitely have to check out those thrift shops, especially I can fully support the charities they benefit. I was not aware the Kingwood library sold books. Thanks! I go to the Friends of the Houston Library annual book fairs every year. Looks like I have a few more places I can hit up. I really appreciate the tips!

@bp2018: It was a LOT of work, but didn't make much money. It was a lot of fun, but it completely consumed their lives. I've spent many days filling in and manning the bookstore counter for them. Emoticon
