FYIHumble ISD will monitor the weather overnight to determine if
roadways in our area become affected by ice to an extent that traveling is
hazardous. Any decision to close or delay the start of school will be made early
tomorrow morning following an assessment of local roadway conditions.
Shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, you will be able to check the
Humble ISD website for an announcement about whether schools are open, closed,
or have a delayed start. The district also will communicate with parents by
email and text messaging and share information with Houston TV stations for the
morning news.

Texas requires that school be made up when districts close for
inclement weather. Feb. 17, 2014, will become a school day if Humble ISD must
close tomorrow. If a delayed start option is needed tomorrow, school would begin
no later than 10 a.m.   4951

@KTownTexican: Although media and people in general do over play things I think what the school district is looking at is whether there will be ice. Buses and parents can not drive on ice safely. If we freeze after all the drizzle the roads will be awful and people will get out in it and have major accidents. If its icey I agree they should close the schools or have a delayed start till the ice melts.

@mpjp0907: Right?!   Driving on 1/4" of ice or 6" of ice is no different. Ice is ice. I hope the school makes the right decision if there is ice. I will make my own decision for my ds as to whether it's safe for him to drive.

@GoldenGirl: It has been cold but I'm afraid you wouldn't have many customers if it were icy. Good that the next sale isn't for another week. By then we could be wearing shorts!  Emoticon

I am glad they are considering this! My son rides on the bus on Fridays to volunteer at an elem. school.  it scares me when the streets are dry, him being on a bus! 4951

Do you think they will delay the start of Humble ISD schools? It looks like the ice/sleet is supposed to hit our area between 2 am and 7 am! 4951
