So my bridesmaids have had a big part in their role in the wedding, I wanted it that way. They chose the dress they're wearing out of a choice of 3 & it was unanimis which dress theh wanted. It wad also my favorite. They've known which dress they are wearing for 7 months & have known the entire time that this stunning gown they chose costs $225. We all went yesterday for lunch & their fittings, & all my girls but 1 made the $135 down payments, they have the next 4 months to pay them off. The girl who didn't pay had already made arrangements with the place to do so Monday. All anyone said was how pretty the dresses are & that every single girl planned to alter the dress short & get more wear after the wedding becauss they loved it so much. Well today the girl who didn't pay decided to back out of the wedding. At first she said it was financal (although NO ONE said anything for the previous 7 mos about the price) but after DH & I offered to help her pay for the dress (shes family), she said that money didn't matter, she was backing out because she felt bad about DH's middle sister that isn't going to be in the wedding. The girl's who paid yesterday signed a non negotiable, non refundable contract for their dresses so even if it was financial, it would be too late.

I'm super hurt though plus now I have to find another bridesmaid. DH has ready asked his 4 guys months ago so I can't just have 3 girls. They are designer dresses that take 4 months to be made & the wedding is in 5 months. So I have to find a replacement bridesmaid like, now. I've had it all over facebook & instagram that they were my 4 & part of the drama with his one sister not being in the wedding is that she's always competed with this cousin who's backing out. I don't know what to do. How do I ask someone else to be a bridesmaid? They'll ask why I waited so long to ask them, what happened with the other girl, etc. I feel sick to my stomach. Advice? 4951

That stinks,, but she knew the deal and had time to plan. So guess she is not the friend you thought she was. I am sure there will be someone else to step up.When I got married, I had a friend who never contacted me about being in my wedding, after I told his family and when it was time it was to late. so we had to have an extra female, but she didn't care. We ended getting my ex's cousin to step in, which was easy, to find a tux for guy. 4951

I had a bridesmaid do that to me.  She couldn't afford the dress and her husband was too proud to let us pay for it and wouldn't let her.  We begged them to reconsider and he refused to budge.  We just went on as is.  It wasn't a perfect match but it wasn't worth the stress.  The wedding was beautiful and here we are 100 years later still married, so that is really all that matters.  You do what you feel,is right, but don't let someone else ruin your day.  Maybe you can find a good friend or family member that will not be offended if you ask them to fill in.  Someone who truly loves you will be happy to help without taking it personally.   4951

@Zephard:
I agree,, as close as you are for the wedding, it may be a bit much for someone to jump into a dress,, unless they really want to... have the maid of honor, be double escorted 4951

@mpjp0907: @Heathur Me too! Oh no! Now you need another guy--lol!   How about having one of the men escort the flower girl? That would be cute.

I also was going to say have the maid of honor be escorted with the two ushers.  I would not want to ask someone at the last minute because you are also putting them on the spot.  My bil's first wife's daughter backed out and they asked me to be in their wedding because I was the same size as their daughter.  (second marriage) I think the more bridesmaids the more headaches!  I remember one of my bridesmaids did not want the shoes that we all picked out.  They are supposed to help with the shower and they did not do anything.  Men are easier!   4951

@donnatella has some great advice, unless a quick replacement or volunteer comes to mind, it will still work & still be a gorgeous ceremony.....it's her loss, not your stress...... 4951

I am sooooooooooooooooooo glad I had a small wedding-under 10 guests.  If I had my own way, it would have only been my DH and maybe dd there. 4951

I completely agree with @Fallon. Everyone here is giving great input. Heather, I'm sure you will be a beautiful bride, and have a wonderful ceremony with or without the bridesmaid in place. 4951

just change your procession. Just have the men already up with the groom and have the women walk alone.  Lots of weddings years ago is how it was done. 4951
