I am looking at getting a used, small, inexpensive car for my teenage daughter.  What have you guys gotten in the past?  What has worked well and not so well?  I am looking a focus, bugs, civics and the like. 4951

I am thinking dodge stealth base.. under 200 horses.. handles well.. neat looking and pretty safe... if insurance is in your name it will be lower.. 91-93 years, they did a body style change in 94.. They are reliable, they go up to 260K miles no problem, it's a Mitsubishi drive train, gas millage is decent too..  4951

Civics, Accords, Camry, or Mazda6 are some of the best options, imo.  They are all very reliable and will drive forever (as long as she takes good care of it, obviously).  When/if the time comes that I find myself buying a car for any of my DDs, those are the cars I will be focusing on.Also, when you have your search narrowed down I would suggest you call your insurance company to see how each car will affect your premium.  That may make the decision a bit easier. 4951

Hyundai Elantra or Accent or Honda Civic are good cars.  They're reliable. 4951

I didn't get a Car until my second year of college. I hitched rides w friends or rode my vehicle of two wheels or my hooves. I did give them gas money! The cars my friends drove were not pretty and very old but reliable. Id have been thrilled with a pos manual anything.

Toyota, Honda, Nissan all hold good value and go go go over 300k miles 4951

I was thinking along those lines at first, but I worried about her being able to drive such a thing especially during the parallel parking portion of the driver's test.  She says she really wants a big truck once she gets used to driving.  LOL 4951

@nurse3 I think those are all great first cars. My first car was a Ford Focus zx3 (3 door hatchback) & I couldn't have gotten a better first car. Safe, reliable, roomy enough. The only engine problem I ever had with it was my alternator went out but that was over 9 or so years, & I'd had it for 4 years before that happened. Whatever you do, get an extended warranty just to be safe. 4951

Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla and when the Corolla was totaled, a nissan truck (well I got a new truck, she got my old one).Great first cars, the truck wasn't bad either.lower insurance, reliable, not too fast, plenty of room, easy on the gas. 4951
