My son needs allergy shots for 36 different allergens out of the 38 they tested him for.  An alternative is allergy drops, but they will cost 150.00 a month as opposed to 50.00 for shots.  We can do the drops at home and only have to go in once a month instead of every 5-7 days for shots.  IDK what to do!Anyone here do the drops? Maybe they are less expensive at another doc. This is at Texas ENT. 4951

Will your doc give you the prescription for the drops to be filled elsewhere, or does he give the meds himself? It might be worth taking a copy of the test results to another facility to get a second opinion and see if they can save you a bit on the costs. 4951

@donnatella: That's what I was thinking.  I tried to call another allergist in KW, but they closed at 3. Looks like I'll be working on this next week. I believe the pricing is pretty standard no matter how many allergens are included. Hopefully they can tell me over the phone and I can get records transferred if I get a better deal.

Maybe an allergy clinic instead if an ENT would have better prices. Since they deal with allergies exclusively, they might have better treatments or get a special bulk discount on the meds. I know that might sound strange but most of the time, an ENT is a sole-practitioner or cluster, but a clinic specializing in just allergies would likely have the most up-to-date info had have the inside info on the latest treatments since that's their only focus. 4951

@topcatI was seeing Dr. Susan Jacobs (Humble) but I am going to get a second opinion with Dr. Lyndall Harrison at Kelsey Seybold in Kingwood.  Dr. Jacobs told me that I was allergic to several foods and environments.  I looked up Dr. Harrison and he had excellent credentials!  Went to UT and Baylor College of Medicine.  I have an appointment on Friday with him to get retested.  I was supposed to get the shot but I have been holding out.  She never said anything about drops. 4951

My allergist says that the shots are more reliable. I did the drops 20+ years ago and found better results with the injections. 4951

@topcat what doc did you see?I am going there next week for Dr. Zarin (sp).  This is the one on Red Oak right?

@Fallon: They have a similar name, but ours is in Humble, downtown and somewhere else but I don't think red oak.

I can't take the shots. My reactions were too sever with the minimal injections.  @Annie, you and I used the same allergiestEmoticon   I really like him, but I need at ENT at this point.

@Fallon:

I had them try a different technique so I have less of a reaction. I had a topical reaction more than anything else. They switch out the needle from the syringe and I no longer have topical reactions. Why it makes a big difference, I don't understand but it works!

My reactions were worst very early in the shots. I am now on maintenance with minimal reaction. 4951

I just want the swelling around my eyes and face in general to stop.  It is just awful in the mornings.

@Fallon:

If you find that solution, you've got to share it! I have battled allergies / sinus my entire life. People may not know me without my dark circles!
