>> I buy the steak from the grocery store, I think it says salisbury steak on the package.  They are thinner steaks and they look almost like hamburger.I usually season them up , salt, pepper, garlic salt, and some Tony's.  Add a bit of  veg oil in the bottom of a pan, and brown them up on either side.  I take them out, drain them, and add some flour to the grease.  Get it the color I want it to be, add some beef broth, or chicken stock, and whisk.  I tend to make the gravy pretty thin.  I put the steaks back into the gravy and turn in on med/low, and look cook and get tender for 45 min or so.  Stir every so often.Good every time
@Fallon: Like the kind of tenderized beef for chicken fried steak? I've never heard of Salisbury steak made with anything but ground beef. Does it get tender like traditional Salisbury steak?
@brightlights:
I use ground beef and seasoned breadcrumbs mixed in. Brown then put in gravy and pop in oven till done.
@BooBear: I use ground beef, too. But I do the entire dish, homemade mushroom gravy and all, in a big electric skillet, then serve it all over mashed potatoes. Â
