Hero for Zero 5K/Family Fun Day! Event Details:

5K RUN AND FREE FUN FOR FAMILIES!!!!

Kingwood Pines Hospital is excited to announce the first annual Hero for Zero 5K Run/Family Fun Day, to be held on September 12, 2015 at Kingwood High School. The event concludes National Suicide Prevention Week, September 5-12, and all proceeds from the race, including race fees and monetary donations, will go toward the Teen Programs of Crisis Intervention of Houston, including TeenText, TeenLine, and TeenApp.

The idea of being a Hero for Zero is to encourage everyone to speak out, or be a Hero, if someone they know is in mental distress or showing signs they may be thinking of hurting themselves. Kingwood Pines Hospital is organizing the event, and the registration link is available on the hospitals website, www.kingwoodpines.com . The cost for the race is $25 for runners over age 16, and tax deductible donations may also be made through the registration link.

Kingwood Pines is a mental health facility in Kingwood that provides crisis inpatient care to all ages, including teenagers and children, who are experiencing suicidal thoughts or are having other crisis psychiatric events. The hospitals CEO is a strong advocate on taking action to prevent the tragedy of suicide.

The theme is heroes for zero because we all want to make sure we are championing the goal of having zero suicides, said Kingwood Pines CEO, Jimmy Burroughs. We know it takes a whole community to make this happen, and we hope that this event will help educate many people about the resources available.

Everyone attending the event is encouraged to dress like their favorite superhero, and there will be many superhero-themed activities for the kids, including bounce houses and a climbing wall. The Project Director for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, as well as representatives from Crisis Intervention of Houston, will also be at the race.
Race check-in will begin at 8AM at Kingwood High School, and the race will begin at 9AM. The Family Fun Day will continue until 12:30PM. Groups over 10 runners may contact the race organizer, listed below, to receive a race discount. All runners will also receive a Hero for Zero event t-shirt.

Humble ISD is also partnering with Kingwood Pines Hospital to extend the Hero for Zero theme into the school district during the 2015-16 school year. Kingwood Pines Hospitals Director of Business Development Brooke Martin says it is a great opportunity to affect the lives of many children and adolescents, We appreciate the valuable partnership with Humble ISD, and together we hope that we can help educate all ages on the importance of being proactive if someone is expressing suicidal thoughts, Martin said. Anyone can be a hero and save someones life by being brave and telling someone who can help.
Any other business wanting to help with donating snacks, food, or supplies may do so by contacting Brooke Martin at Kingwood Pines Hospital, 281-404-1039 or brooke.martin@uhsinc.com . Companies making donations worth over $500 will have a logo featured on the Hero for Zero t-shirt, provided for all runners.
